Bistro One Ninety at The Gore

bistro-190Great atmosphere, great value and a great place to people watch.

Back in 1968 the Rolling Stones filmed their Beggars Banquet at The Gore’s Bar One Ninety and ever since then, both bar and bistro have been a favoured hang-out for music and media A-listers. Part of the exclusive Gore Hotel, the bistro is situated on a quiet Kensington street around the corner from Hyde Park’s Queen’s Gate.

The interior is elegant Georgian with a contemporary twist. Whilst undoubtedly smart, the atmosphere is informal and lively. It has enjoyed an excellent reputation for food since the 1950’s and serves simple, fresh, expertly cooked dishes. I chose from the Theatre menu, designed for those heading for the Albert Hall, which proved unexpectedly good value at just £21.50 for two courses or £23.50 for three. Dishes such as spiced scallop ravioli and 28-day matured rib eye steak with triple cooked chips appeared on the à la carte menu.
